The first UNGER cleaning tools
Nifty Nabber, Strip T’z and Swivel Loc – do you know what these names actually signify? They are all cleaning tools which UNGER has developed over the course of the last fifty years. A look back.
When the young professional window cleaner Henry M. Unger moved from America to Germany in 1964, he had just one dream: to establish innovative window cleaning tools from the United States in Europe. Together with his wife Barbara, he founded the company UNGER in a penthouse apartment in Hamburg. Just a short while later, they moved on to Solingen and opened their own production facilities.
And not without success: the breakthrough came in 1966 with the UNGER S-Squeegee. Manufactured from stainless steel instead of brass, it impressed with its clever spring mechanism for quick and simple changing of the channels and the rubbers. The top-quality rubber coating guaranteed that the window cleaning process could be completed by hand in a much easier manner – even in freezing temperatures.
The fact that Henry always listened to the concerns of and feedback from window and building cleaners meant that the young entrepreneur missed nothing. He was able to use this practical knowledge cleverly when it came to product development.
For example, he also recognized that ergonomics was beginning to play an increasingly important role in day-to-day work and that new solutions – which were even more user-friendly – had to be produced: this led to the birth of the ErgoTec Squeegee.
The rubber of this squeegee was embedded into a plastic handle, something which made the product not only more practical, but also considerably lighter.
Subsequent innovations – which we are sure that you all know – included the PRO-Squeegee, the TelePlus pole system as well as the MicroStrip and MicroWipe microfiber cloths.
Even today, UNGER continues to strive to make the work of window and building cleaners easier, safer and more effective. By working closely with you, the users, the latest chapters in UNGER’s history have already been written: from the ErgoTec Ninja, through the HydroPower DI pure water systems, to the nLite water-fed poles – to name just a few. Only with your feedback are we able to carry the original idea of Henry Unger forward into the future.
